E.G.LEWIS GROUP EMPLOY SOHK PARTICIPANT

E.G.Lewis Group are delighted to announce the employment of School of Hard Knocks Cymru participate, Katie Williams.

26 year old Katie – mother of two from Sandfields, Port Talbot has joined the Group as Administrative Assistant, having completed an eight-week SoHK Cymru employability course at Aberavon RFC back in February.

School of Hard Knocks began with delivery to unemployed adults, and it remains at the core of their work today. They are passionate about achieving their mission of empowering people to fully realise their potential and deliver life-changing eight-week programmes to adults in challenging circumstances.

All courses use lessons out on the pitch or in the gym, alongside classroom-based activities. SoHK main beneficiaries are unemployed adults, in which they deliver life and employability skills such as goal-setting, anger and fear management, CV-writing and interview preparation. This structure comes together with the ultimate aim of enabling participants to find employment and realise their potential.

SoHK utilise sport to tackle issues surrounding unemployment, crime and health whilst they improve physical & mental health, self-esteem and self-confidence of participants – with them supporting adults in the Neath & Port Talbot region to regain employment using rugby and personal development techniques..

26 year old Katie – had this to say about the impact of School of Hard Knocks and her new role:

“It’s been a truly amazing experience. I have developed new friendships and I have felt part of something quite special at School of Hard Knocks Cymru.

“It has helped me to grow on a personal basis and understand the importance of working as a team, whilst developing my confidence and work ethic in readiness for my exciting new role at E.G. Lewis Group”.

E.G. Lewis Group first encountered participants of the Neath & Port Talbot SoHK programme back in February of this year when we visited their eight-week programme situated at Talbot Athletic Ground – home to Aberavon RFC, with a kit drop in which included active, sports and work wear donated by employees.

Liam Mackay, Adult course facilitator of School of Hard Knocks Cymru had added:

"School Of Hard Knocks Cymru are incredibly proud of Katie, the way she carried herself over the eight-week programme will set the bar for others going forward, whilst highlighting the importance of working with charities and organisations.

"We are delighted with the partnership with E.G.Lewis Group and hope this is the first of many opportunities given to our participants in South Wales".

Did you know that SoHK assist over 40% participants into full-time work within three months of the programme beginning, whilst 69% of those sustain that position within employment.
