E.G.Lewis Group are delighted to announce a business class partnership with Port-Talbot based comprehensive school Ysgol Bae Baglan.
Business Class is a tried and tested programme, developed by Business in the Community alongside Careers Wales, that builds lasting partnerships between business and schools in Wales. Those partnerships, based firmly on the needs of the school and the priorities of the business, will transform the life chances of young people and develop talented employees for the future.
By bringing business and schools together in a structured way, Business Class improves young people’s understanding of the world of work and their awareness of career choices, and develops their employability skills. Business Class provides holistic support to help schools develop a more effective environment for learners.
Gareth Price, Business Engagement Adviser at Careers Wales had this to say about the partnership:
"Business Class is Business in the Community’s (BITC) flagship education programme, delivered by Careers Wales that creates effective, mutually beneficial partnerships between businesses and schools.
"It is vital that we seek business partners to support schools and young people, we use the Business Class programme to deliver Activities across four key areas; leadership and governance, curriculum, enterprise and employability and wider issues. Careers Wales & BITC are delighted to be working with E.G.Lewis Group and Ysgol Bae Baglan on the Business Class project".
The programme is based on the needs of your school with businesses providing you with support across four key areas; leadership and governance, curriculum, enterprise and employability and wider issues.
Schools who take part in Business Class report:
79% of pupils were encouraged to work harder
40% increase in pupils’ employability skills
70% of pupils gained useful contacts or careers information
84% of pupils wanted to meet more employers to further boost their knowledge and understanding.
Joanne Cooper, Leader of Business & Enterprise at Ysgol Bae Baglan emphasised E.G.Lewis Group’s support by adding:
"We are delighted and honoured to join in partnership with E.G.Lewis Group, in which as a school believe the links with such an established local company will benefit our pupils moving forward.
"We are excited about the opportunities that this ‘Business Class’ partnership will bring to our school, students, staff and local community".
E.G.Lewis Group first encountered Ysgol Bae Baglan back in January 2019, as a group of year 9 students alongside Business Ambassador Ben Jenkins were recognised for their teamwork, communication skills and creative thinking displayed within the Business Class Cluster Collaboration Event - CRE8 presentation which saw them being crowned with the ‘Best Presentation’ award.
