E.G. LEWIS GROUP TO SUPPORT THE COLD TRUTH APPEAL - SLEEP OUT

11 FEBRUARY 2019 09:10

E.G. Lewis Group are proud to announce our participation in The Cold Truth Sleep-out and spend one night sleeping outside at our organised event to raise money and awareness of the issue of homelessness – alongside 'Team TATA Steel'.

The event is not a comparison to the life of a homeless person, but we do want to highlight some of the challenges faced.

Part of the appeal includes a sleepout on the evening of Wednesday 20th February at the Liberty Stadium - which involves volunteers in sleeping out for the night with sleeping bags on cardboard.

Housing charity Shelter reported that at least 25,937 people experienced homelessness across Wales in 2017/18 – which is 3% higher than the previous year’s statistics. Whilst noting that 1,497 in Port Talbot alone were homeless over the same period.

The campaign will look to raise money four homeless charities which include:

Matthew’s House – Provides a ‘home’ in the heart of Swansea for those who are most vulnerable. A building that is known for providing a lifeline for the homeless and others who need it.

Zac’s Place – Over the years Zac’s Place has earned a reputation for providing a safe haven and an environment of pro-active care and concern for some of Swansea’s most alienated people.

Llamau – At Llamau they believe that no young person or vulnerable woman should ever have to experience homelessness. Their mission is to eradicate homelessness for young people and vulnerable women. But for thousands of the most vulnerable people in Wales, homelessness is a frightening reality.

Trampface - Lee West & Paul O'Dwyer started Trampface in 2014 to raise awareness on the amount of ex-military men & women who are sadly living on our streets. After 4 years and raising over £40,000 they decided to start a local not for profit organisation called SA1UTE with some other selfless fundraisers. This organisation is aimed at helping veterans within South Wales to get back on their feet, provide a helping hand and offer support where it's needed most.

The Team Tata Steel raffle included prizes such as a signed Swansea City football shirt by midfielder - Bersant Celina and tickets to Swansea City clash with Bolton Wanderers at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday 2nd March, 2019.

Eleanor Shorland, Communications Assistant at TATA Steel had this to say about E.G. Lewis Group’s support in the appeal:

“We are extremely grateful to E.G. Lewis Group for donating prizes to the Team Tata Steel raffle - raising awareness and money for homelessness in South West Wales whilst supporting the ‘sleep out’ itself with volunteers”.
