CHAMPIONS BECOME ADULT MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINED

South Wales based specialist industrial contractor, E.G.Lewis Group, are delighted to announce that two of our Time To Change champions have become Adult Mental Health First Aider’s as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to ending the stigma which surrounds mental health.

HR & Training Manager, Hannah Lewis along with Health & Safety Advisor, Michael Stewart completed the 12 hour AMHFA (Wales) course in which teaches adults how to provide Mental Health First Aid to friends, families and co-workers. Mental Health First Aid [MHFA] is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem, or in a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until the appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

As a participant, our champions obtained further knowledge of mental illnesses and their interventions, knowledge of appropriate first aid strategies, and confidence in helping individuals experiencing a mental health problem.

Back in December 2018, we committed to changing the way we think and act about mental health in the workplace by signing an employer pledge with Time to Change Wales, the growing social movement run by charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness which supports people to open up to mental health problems.

Break the culture of silence that surrounds mental health and talk to your employer.
