E.G.Lewis Group, a South Wales based specialist industrial contractor, is proud to announce that we have been awarded the judge’s Impactful Conversations Award at Legal and General’s 2019 Not A Red Card Awards event, hosted at The Kia Oval on Tuesday 1st October.
Having originally been shortlisted for The Innovative Use of Sport Award, which recognises companies from across the United Kingdom that has used sport in a unique way to raise awareness, educate or address mental health issues in the workplace. School of Hard Knocks (SoHK) were the winners overall for their work which utilises sport to tackle issues surrounding unemployment, crime and health whilst they improve physical & mental health, self-esteem and self-confidence of participants.
Fitness within the Workplace (FWTW), the employee well-being initiative developed alongside Llandarcy Academy of Sport and Resolution Strength & Condition, was recognised for a unique award on behalf of the panel of judges in relation to the Group’s dedication and commitment towards removing the stigma of mental health within a male orientated industry, of which we operate within. The initiative was formed back in May with the aim of creating an environment for our people to relieve stress, anxiety and other mental health issues along with team bonding whilst building each individuals physical strength and conditioning abilities outside of the workplace.
Red Cards in sport are normally associated with bad behaviour, but we’re using it to show that it’s not a bad thing to talk about mental health in the workplace. Mental health, including stress, is one of the biggest causes of long and short term employee absences, so encouraging employers and employees to have more conversations will help limit its impact and improve wellbeing.
